I didn’t know Dee for too long - we only met back in March. But I respect her for working until the day she died. She submitted her last column for our newspaper the day before her death.
I remember covering Darryl Strawberry’s birthday party in Douglaston, N.Y. when Dee invited me to sit down with her and order a drink. I didn’t have one, as I was still new to the job and wasn’t very sure of the boundaries. But Dee sat there with some wine and took it all in.
Judging by the reactions, it is likely safe to say Queens lost a big name this week. RIP Dee.
